The incident occurred on Tuesday evening as the migrants, from Egypt, Nepal, Cuba, India, and Pakistan, attempted to evade a military patrol near Huixtla, about 40 kilometers from Tapachula.

Kathmandu: Six migrants, including a Nepali national, were killed when Mexican soldiers fired on a group of 33 migrants traveling in a pick-up truck near the Guatemalan border, according to Mexico’s defense ministry. 

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening as the migrants, from Egypt, Nepal, Cuba, India, and Pakistan, attempted to evade a military patrol near Huixtla, about 40 kilometers from Tapachula.

Another 10 migrants were injured in the confrontation, which took place after soldiers reportedly heard explosions and opened fire. Four died at the scene, while two others succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

The Mexican defense ministry has removed the soldiers involved and is conducting an investigation, while federal prosecutors and a military tribunal are also looking into the incident.
