Kathmandu: Two individuals lost their lives, and 45 others sustained injuries during violent clashes between security forces and pro-monarchy demonstrators in Kathmandu on Friday.

According to Deputy Inspector General of Police Dinesh Kumar Acharya, spokesperson for Nepal Police, multiple buildings and vehicles were set on fire during the unrest.

A protester who was injured during the demonstration was declared dead upon arrival at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, according to hospital’s director, Dr Subash Acharya. The body has been sent to the forensic department for an autopsy in coordination with the police. The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Sabin Maharjan, a resident of ward 4 in Kirtipur Municipality, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Also, a journalist lost his life when protesters set fire to a building in Tinkune. Suresh Rajak, who was capturing footage for Avenues Television from the rooftop, was killed in the blaze.

Seven individuals with gunshot wounds are currently receiving medical treatment at different hospitals in Kathmandu. Five are being treated at Tribhuvan Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, while two others are at the National Trauma Centre.
