Satish Kumar Singh appointed Madhesh Chief Minister

Kathmandu: Satish Kumar Singh of the Janamat Party has been appointed the new Chief Minister of Madhesh Province. The appointment was made under Article 168(2) of the Constitution on Friday.

Singh secured his position with the support of 55 assembly members, surpassing the required simple majority of 54 in the 107-member Madhesh assembly. 

The coalition backing Singh includes 24 members from the CPN-UML, 13 from the Janamat Party, nine from the CPN (Maoist Centre), seven from the CPN (Unified Socialist), and one each from the Nagarik Unmukti Party and the Nepal Sanghiya Samajbadi Party.
