‘Russian Film Day’ marked

Kathmandu: The Russian Film Day was celebrated as a part of the 8th Nepal International Film Festival in Kathmandu, on Saturday.

During the special screening session, movie enthusiasts grabbed the opportunity to watch three Russian films organized by ROSKINO, the state body of Russian films, with support of the Russian Ministry of Culture.

Appreciating the initiative taken by NIFF, Anton Maslov said, “It feels great to see that Nepali audience’s enthusiasm to see something more about Russia. I want to thank ROSKINO and the Russian Embassy for their support. I hope this will help you all to understand our people, and culture through films. That’s what international film festivals are for.”

Nepal has become the latest spot to fall under the ROSKINO’s Russian film festival’s radar. This festival has been a way for ROSKINO to showcase Russian films abroad, as well as widen screenings of their films throughout Asia.

Addressing the one-day festival, NIFF Chairperson KP Pathak said, ” This is the first time we are celebrating Russian Film Day at NIFF. We have initiated this to collaborate with different countries while celebrating their culture and film. We want to welcome filmmakers from all over the world to Nepal and screen their films in our country. We want to introduce Russian film, culture, people, and Russian society through films.”

The festival has already been organized screenings in China, India, Thailand, South Korea, and Laos.
The Russian Cinema Day includes both the works of famous directors as well as their premieres. Guests will be able to see the war drama Nuremberg (2023, directed by Nikolay Lebedev), the teen-love melodrama Four Quarters (2024, directed by Evgenia Tirdatova), and the romantic comedy/road-trip adventure, Threesome (2021, directed by Alexandra Sarana).

The 8th Nepal International Film Festival is ongoing in Kathmandu. The five-day festival will screen feature films, short movies, and AI films from 40 countries.
