Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel requested the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, for assistance in securing the release of Bipin Joshi.

Joshi, a Nepali student, has been held captive by the Palestinian militant group Hamas since October 7.

The request was made during their meeting at the Office of the President. President Paudel expressed deep concern for Joshi’s well-being and urged the Emir to take proactive steps towards securing his release.

Emir Al-Thani, who arrived in Nepal for a two-day visit on Tuesday afternoon, assured that he would take more initiative in this matter.

Joshi was abducted when Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. The armed attack resulted in the deaths of ten Nepali students. These students were studying agriculture science at Sudurpaschim University and had gone to Israel under the ‘Learn and Earn’ program just a month before the attack. All the other students, except Joshi, were repatriated soon after the incident.
