Nepal Police arrests the activist who was protesting state persecution against Dalits

Khagendra Sunar has demanding resignation of the home minister for his alleged involvement in mobilizing Nepal police to apprehend a couple from Mumbai because the boy was from a Dalit community.

Kathmandu: Nepal Police on Monday arrested Khagendra Sunar, the activist who has been waging protest against the government for its persecution and oppression against the Dalits.  Recently, Sunar has been vehemently opposing the alleged involvement of Ramesh Lekhak, Home Minister from ruling Nepali Congress, in mobilizing Nepal police personnel to harass a couple in inter-caste marriage from a Dalit and a non-Dalit caste.   Reports say that Home Minister Lekhak, who is close to Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, ordered Nepal Police officials to go to Mumbai to apprehend Satyendra Ram and Neha Rauniyar—the youth who ran away to Mumbai because Rauniya’s father was opposed to this union. Neha’s father, who belongs to higher caste, is said to be close to Nepali Congress.

Khagendra Sunar had raised this matter on social media and had demanded the resignation of Home Minister Lekhak. On Monday, Sunar was staging symbolic protest in Baneshwar in front of the federal parliament building by wearing metal chains around his body.
