Nepal PM Oli highlights SAARC’s role in fostering trust and regional unity

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli extended warm greetings and felicitations to the governments and people of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member states on the occasion of the 40th SAARC Charter Day.

In his message, PM Oli emphasized SAARC’s pivotal role in fostering mutual trust, understanding, and cooperation among its members. He reaffirmed Nepal’s firm commitment as the current SAARC Chair to the principles of the SAARC Charter in building a peaceful, prosperous, and integrated South Asia. The message was detailed in a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Highlighting pressing socioeconomic and environmental challenges such as climate change and transnational organized crime, PM Oli called for the revitalization of SAARC to promote the shared interests and prosperity of the region’s people.

In a separate message, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba conveyed best wishes to the governments and people of the SAARC member states. She acknowledged the foresight of SAARC’s founding leaders and the significance of the Charter in fostering collective self-reliance, enhancing the quality of life, and strengthening regional solidarity to address common challenges.

She underscored the need to revive and empower SAARC to achieve its objectives, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in line with the spirit of amity and mutual consensus enshrined in the Charter.

The 40th SAARC Charter Day serves as a reminder of the organization’s enduring relevance in addressing shared challenges and fostering regional unity in South Asia.
