Nepal PM, former PMs congratulate Donald Trump on his return to the White House

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Oli, along with former prime ministers, has extended their best wishes and congratulations to Donald Trump, who was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States for the second term on Monday.

Trump, US president from 2017-2021, won landslide victory in the presidential race in November, 2024.

Nepali leaders have expressed their wishes to advance partnership with the US during second term of President Trump.

“Congratulations to H.E. Mr. Donald J. Trump on assuming office as the 47th President of the USA. Best wishes for a successful tenure,” Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli wrote on X on Monday. “Nepal and the US share 75+ years of warm ties, and I look forward to working together to further strengthen our partnership.”

Similarly, former prime minister and Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has also wished for strengthened relations between Nepal and the US during Trump’s second term. While congratulating Trump for taking office as the 47th President of the United States of America Deuba wrote “I am confident that the relationship between Nepal and the USA will further strengthen during your tenure.”

Likewise, former prime minister and leader of Socialist Party of Nepal, also extended congratulations to Trump. “Let the friendly relations between Nepal and the USA blossom further for mutual benefits of both the countries,” he wrote.

Nepal-US relations go back to 1947 when Nepal officially entered into the diplomatic relations with the US.  The US is one of the largest donors to Nepal.
