Jhyaple Khola landslide

Malekhu: Twenty five dead bodies were recovered in Jhyaplekhola, Dhunibensi Municipality-9 of Dhading on the border of Dhading and Kathmandu till 11 am on Sunday (29 September 2024).

The rescue team, which recovered 14 bodies till Saturday night, recovered 11 more bodies today. Police Inspector and Information Officer Prahlad Silwal of the District Police Office informed that the rescue team that recovered the bodies of one child, five women and eight men on Saturday night recovered the bodies of nine men and two women this morning.

As the buried vehicles were in a state of disrepair and the bodies were also found scattered, it is difficult to ascertain that the body belongs to which vehicle they were on board. Information officer Silwal informed that it is difficult to identify the number of vehicles found in a buried state because they are broken into pieces.

Transport entrepreneur Arjun Bhatt informed that the body of the driver Madan Pariyar was found on the roof rod of the bus while the excavator was digging the landslide.

It is assumed that the bus, which was found buried by a landslide, had three crew members and one passenger to Muglin. Similarly, the microbus which was carrying passengers from Chitwan’s Pulchok to Kathmandu was also buried in the landslide of Jhyaple River and as it is not sure how many passengers were there, the rescue team has intensified the search operation, suspecting that many more bodies may be found in the landslide.

Nar Bahadur Rana, chairman of Manakamana Mai Transport Pvt Ltd, informed that the bus number Ba 2 Kha 1345 operated by the Pvt Ltd was out of contact since Friday 2.00pm.
