Kathmandu: Nepal abstained from voting in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for a resolution which demanded that Israel should end its unlawful presence in Palestinian territories within 12 months.

Of total of 193-member states, 124 countries voted in favor of the resolution, 14 stood against it and 43 abstained from voting, according to UN News.

From South Asia, India and Nepal abstained while Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka supported the UN resolution.

Countries like Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom also abstained. Israel and the United States voted against the resolution.

The UN resolution says, among other things, that Israel should allow all Palestinians displaced during the occupation to return to their place of origin and make reparation for the damage caused by its occupation and that Israel “must be held to account for any violations” of international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including of international humanitarian and human rights laws,” UN News reported.
