Kathmandu:  All public toilets within the Kathmandu Metropolitan City area will now be available for free use.

In a notice issued on Friday, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City announced that no fees can be charged to users of the constructed and operational public toilets.

“The Metropolitan City will provide necessary manpower, materials, maintenance, and cleaning support for the free operation of public toilets,” the notice reads.

The Kathmandu Metro has also asked public toilet operators, who have been charging certain fees, to submit written clarifications to the Metropolitan City’s Public-Private Partnership Unit within 15 days.

After the specified period, all public toilets within the Metropolitan City must operate free of charge.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has stated that any public toilet charging fees contrary to this notice will face action.

Likewise, any government agency, non-governmental organization, or private sector entity operating public toilets within or outside their premises is also requested to provide free toilet services.
