Immunization campaign against polio launched in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: A special vaccination campaign against polio started on Wednesday in all three districts of the Kathmandu Valley. 

The Ministry of Health and Population has launched the immunization drive after the detection of poliovirus in a sample of water taken from the confluence of the Tukucha rivulet and the Bagmati River at Teku, Kathmandu, said Dr. Abhiyan Gautam, chief of the Child Health and Immunization Section of the Department of Health Services.   

According to Dr Gautam, health workers and women community health volunteers will administer the ‘OPV’ to new-born and children below five years.

The immunization programme will run till July 27. 

He added that 280,000 children will be administered the OPV under the special immunization campaign.
