Kathmandu: The government has formed a high-level Economic Reform Commission chaired  by former Finance Secretary Rameshore Khanal.

The five-member commission, formed based on a proposal from the Ministry of Finance, was approved during Monday’s Cabinet meeting.

The commission includes Dr Prakash Kumar Shrestha, a member of the National Planning Commission; Prof Dr Ram Prasad Gyawali, head of the Economics Department at Tribhuvan University; economist Dr Biswas Gauchan; and Dr Kalpana Khanal, a senior researcher at the Policy Research Institute.

The commission will consult with the private sector and other key stakeholders in the economy as needed, it has been said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel expressed confidence that the commission, after consultations with various sectors, will offer actionable recommendations to steer Nepal’s economy in the right direction, making it more dynamic and responsive to the changing times.

The formation of this commission was part of the Finance Ministry’s 100-day action plan, and the commission will establish its own working procedures.
