Kathmandu: The Association of Former Career Ambassadors of Nepal (AFCAN) held an interaction meeting with the newly appointed French Ambassador to Nepal Virginie Corteval on Tuesday. During the meeting, the ambassador highlighted the age-old friendly relations in various sectors between Nepal and France. She remarked that the year 2025 is a special one for Nepal-France relations being the 75th anniversary of the successful scaling of Mount Annapurna by Mr Maurice Herzog, a French mountaineer who led the Annapurna expedition that first climbed a peak over 8000 meters in 1950.

During the program, the impact of climate change on countries like Nepal, who are the least emitters of carbon, was also discussed. The ambassador applauded the progress made by Nepal in human rights, empowerment of women, gender issues and biodiversity. She further said that she will put her best efforts to cooperate Nepal in graduating from LDC’s group in 2026. She added that her efforts will also be directed towards increasing more Nepali products in France.
