Dhan Bahadur Kunwar of Nepali Congress wins Duhun-5 by-elections in Darchula

Darchula: Dhan Bahadur Kunwar of the Nepali Congress has secured victory in the by-election for the position of Ward Chair of Duhun Rural Municipality-5, held on Sunday.

Kunwar secured a total of 376 votes, narrowly defeating his closest competitor, Mansingh Badal of the CPN (UML), who garnered 363 votes, according to Election Officer Pushparaj Pandey.

Bir Singh Karki (CPN-Maoist Centre) and Lal Singh Kunwar (Independent) secured 98 and 25 votes, respectively.

Out of 1,272 registered voters, 877 cast their votes – a turnout of 69.94%. This by-election was conducted to fill the vacancy left by the demise of Manorath Bhatta, the former ward president elected from the CPN (Maoist Centre) in the last local elections.
