Kathmandu: King Charles III, the British Monarch, has sent a message of condolences to Nepal and Nepalis in the wake of loss of lives and destruction and damage of properties caused by floods and landslides in Nepal last week.

In a message of condolence sent to president of Nepal, the British king has said that he was heartbroken to see the devastating effects of flooding and landslides in Nepal.

“Many in the United Kingdom have strong, deep and personal ties to Nepal, not least through the Gurkhas and their astounding contribution to the British Army,” the King wrote. “Together with the British public, we send our deepest condolences to those who have so tragically lost their loved ones and who continue to be affected.”

The King has also said that the UK is ready to support Nepal. “As always, the United Kingdom stands ready to help you support those most in need.”

The UK embassy in Kathmandu half-masted the Union flag during the period of national mourning.

The UK is providing £400,000 through Start Fund Nepal to meet immediate needs—food, health and protection—for the most affected, according to British ambassador to Nepal Rob Fenn.
