Kathmandu: The meeting of both Houses—the House of Representatives and the National Assembly—has been adjourned until Sunday as the ruling and opposition parties failed to reach a consensus on forming a probe panel to investigate allegations against Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

The Nepali Congress, the main opposition, has been obstructing proceedings in both Houses, demanding the government form a parliamentary committee to investigate Lamichhane’s alleged cooperative fraud.

The meeting of the upper house, the National Assembly, has been adjourned until Sunday at 1:15 pm, while the meeting of the lower house has been adjourned until 11 am.

Earlier, the meeting of the House of Representatives was scheduled for 11 am and was later postponed to 2 pm. The House proceedings could not start at 2 pm either. Likewise, the meeting of the upper house also could not start on time and was adjourned until Sunday.

The House of Representatives meeting on Thursday witnessed unusual scenes as lawmakers from both the ruling and opposition parties were involved in an altercation.
