Balen Shah leaves for France to participate in Cannes Film Festival

Kathmandu:  The Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Balen Shah left for France this morning to participate in 77th edition of Cannes Film Festival, which is being held from May 14-25. Cannes and Kathmandu are both member cities of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network.

Balen Shah was invited by the Mayor of Cannes David Lisnard. 

Shah will participate in different programs of the festival and he will also meet mayor Lisnard and director of the festival. He will mainly participate in red carpet and premier programs. A reception will be held for Kathmandu mayor in Multimedia Library of Cannes.

Though no films were selected for Cannes from Nepal this year, the festival will screen ‘The Sameless’ and ‘Tara: A Lost Start,’ both shot in Nepal and Nepali artists featuring in them.

In 2023, UNESCO accorded Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, the status of a UNESCO Creative City and included it in UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
