Kathmandu: The Nepal Academy has awarded renowned translator Dr. Bal Ram Adhikari with the prestigious ‘Pragya Anubad Puraskar, 2081’ amid a special ceremony organized at the Academy’s premises in Kathmandu.

The award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of literary translation, was presented to Adhikari for his exemplary work in bringing world literature to Nepali readers and enriching the nation’s literary landscape through translation.

Accepting the award, Adhikari expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Nepal Academy for the recognition. “Translation is a way of connecting cultures, sharing ideas, and expressing human experiences across the world. It began as a personal interest and has now grown into something recognized and institutionalized,” he said. “Winning this award has encouraged me even more to continue working and contributing in this field.”

Similarly, the Pragya Sahitya Puraskar has been awarded to Jasraj Kirati, the Pragya Sahitya Puraskar (Prose) to Krishna Dharavasi, the Pragya Vimoksha Puraskar to Dr. Sudha Tripathi, the Pragya Darshan Puraskar to Gopi Raman Upadhyay, and the Pragya Antarrashtriya Puraskar to Bhawilal Lamichhane (India). All the awards carry a cash prize of one lakh rupees.

Eminent writers, translators, literary enthusiasts, and members of the Nepal Academy had graced the event. The program concluded with a felicitation ceremony and thoughtful reflections on the growing importance and evolving role of translation in shaping contemporary Nepali literature.
