Kathmandu: The ruling and opposition parties have reached a consensus to form a house panel. However, the leaders are yet to disclose whether the probe panel will investigate allegations against Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, or the entire issues surrounding the cooperative.

The leaders on Saturday have decided to form a task force led by Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri to finalize the terms of reference (ToR) of the panel. The four-member task force include Giri, Mahesh Bartaula from CPN-UML, Jeevan Pariyar from Nepali Congress, and Sishir Khanal from Rastriya Swatantra Party.

In a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, senior leaders from Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Rastriya Swatantra Party discussed ways to end the parliamentary deadlock.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’,  Congress chair Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (UML) chair KP Sharma Oli, and DPM Rabi Lamichhane.

The Nepali Congress, the main opposition, has been obstructing both Houses–the House of Representatives and National Assembly—demanding a high-level parliamentary committee be formed to investigate allegations against Lamichhane, who also chairs Rastriya Swatantra Party.

Lamichhane has been accused of embezzling a huge amount of funds from cooperatives in Butwal, Pokhara and Kathmandu.
