Kathmandu: Editors and senior journalists have strongly opposed the attempt to prosecute Dil Bhushan Pathak under Electronic Transaction Act. Issuing a joint statement on Saturday, 35 journalists, comprising those currently serving as editors as well as those who served as editors in the past, demanded that the arrest warrant against Pathak be immediately revoked.
Arrest warrant has been issued against Pathak under provisions of the Electronic Transactions Act (ETA).
Media fraternity, including rights organizations like Amnesty International Nepal, have strongly opposed the government’s attempt to curtail freedom of expression by invoking Electronic Transactions Act.
Pathak, the host of ‘Tough Talk’ show, had run an ‘explainer’ four weeks ago on reported case of Jaiveer Deuba, the son of Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana, purchasing Hilton Hotel.
