Another Nepali student found dead at KIIT University

Kathmandu: In less than three months after the tragic death of Prakriti Lamsal, another Nepali undergraduate student has been found dead at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, India on Thursday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Prisha Sah, a first-year BTech Computer Science Engineering (CSE) student, according to Nepali-language online Ukaalo.

According to a report by Odisha TV, Sah’s body was discovered hanging in her hostel room. Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh confirmed the death and stated that a full investigation is underway. The exact cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the Nepali student community in India while sparking renewed concerns about student safety and institutional accountability at KIIT University.

This death comes just weeks after the highly controversial case of 20-year-old Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year BTech student from Nepal, who died by suicide on February 16.

Her death had sparked outrage and protests among Nepali students at KIIT. The university had faced criticism for its delayed and dismissive response to her reports of harassment and blackmail by a fellow student.

Death of Prisha Sah has reopened wounds and brought further scrutiny to the university’s handling of student welfare. As the investigation continues, KIIT University has yet to release an official statement regarding the second death.
