Bhutanese refugees submit memorandum to home ministry

Kathmandu: The secretaries of Beladangi camp in Jhapa and the Sanischare Pathari camp in Morang have jointly submitted a memorandum to the Ministry of Home Affairs, raising the issue of Bhutanese refugees in Nepal.

Submitting a memorandum, the secretaries have raised the issue of Bhutanese refugees’ long standing demand for a permanent solution.

A group of 15 people from Beladangi and Sanischare Pathari camps reached Kathmandu to submit a memorandum to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

“Fake Bhutanese refugee cases have made it difficult to obtain birth registration for children born in camps, while obtaining travel documents is also challenging. The demand for repatriation is still ongoing,” the memorandum reads.

The group has also planned to meet Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to talk about the issue of Bhutanese refugees. According to Karan Rai, Secretary of the Shantinagar camp, the real refugees are suffering due to the fake refugee cases.

Beladangi Camp Secretary Sanchahang Subba informed the Home Ministry about the need for addressing the demand for repatriation.
