Eight-party forum of Madhesh-based parties condemn state repression on demonstrations against Pathibhara cable car project

Kathmandu: Members of eight Madhesh-based political parties associated with eight-party forum on Saturday met the activists of Mukumlung movement undergoing treatment in TU Teaching Hospital. The activists were injured in a clash between the police and locals protesting the construction of the cable car in the Pathibhara area on Saturday evening.

Locals from Pathibhara of Taplejung district have been protesting against the construction of Pathibhara Cable Car arguing that it will negatively affect local economy and it will be a dishonor to goddess Pathibhara, locally called ‘Mukumlung.’

Members of eight-party forum, that comprises Janata Samajbadi Party, Janamat Party, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party and Nagarik Unmukti Party among others, met those injured during the clash with the police and expressed their solidarity with Mukumlung movement.

The forum has said that the bid to construct cable car in Pathibhara undermines the faith of the local people. It has also condemned the state repression on the movement.
