Rabi Lamichhane sent to police custody, again

Lamichhane was ordered into police custody by the Kathmandu District Court in connection with the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative fraud case in Kathmandu.

Kathmandu: Just three days after being released from police custody on bail, Rabi Lamichhane, a former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, has been sent back to police custody on Sunday in connection with a cooperative funds embezzlement case.

Lamichhane, who is also the chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, was ordered into police custody by the Kathmandu District Court in connection with the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative fraud case in Kathmandu.

Previously, Lamichhane was released on bail by the Kaski District Court on Thursday in a separate fraud case involving the Pokhara-based Suryadarshan Cooperative.

A single bench of District Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari ordered Lamichhane to be placed under police custody.

Lamichhane will be held at the District Police Office, Bhadrakali, according to the police.

The police will present him in court on Monday.

Following the judge’s order, Lamichhane accepted the decision, saying, “I accept the court’s order.”

Earlier, Lamichhane was granted bail in the Surydarshan Cooperative case by the District Court of Kaski with a bond of Rs 6.5 million. Previously, he had been in Kaski police custody for 84 days regarding the Surydarshan Cooperative case.
