Kathmandu: The Nepal Army has confirmed the safety of all Nepali troops deployed in Syria as part of the United Nations peacekeeping mission, following recent unrest in the region.

In a press release issued today, the Nepal Army assured that Nepali peacekeepers stationed across various locations under the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) remain unharmed and in stable condition.

This update comes in light of reports that the Islamist rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has taken control of parts of Syria, including the forcible entry into the 10-A security post in Hadar on December 7. Nepali peacekeepers are among those stationed at this post under the UNDOF mandate.

“The condition of Nepali peacekeepers in various locations under the United Nations mission in Syria is normal,” stated the release, reaffirming the commitment and resilience of Nepali troops amidst challenging circumstances.

Nepal has a longstanding history of contributing to UN peacekeeping missions worldwide, and this reassurance underscores the professionalism and dedication of its peacekeepers in volatile regions.
