Nepali Congress obstructs house meeting

Kathmandu: Nepali Congress has obstructed the first meeting of the budget session of the House of Representatives, demanding a house panel be formed to investigate allegations against Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

Following the obstruction, Speaker Devraj Ghimire adjourned the meeting for 15 minutes.

At the beginning of the meeting, Speaker Ghimire allowed Nepali Congress lawmaker Gagan Thapa to speak.

Addressing the meeting, Thapa said Nepal Congress will not allow the house to run its proceedings until a probe committee is formed to investigate Lamichhane’s alleged involvement in embezzling cooperative funds.

The meeting that was adjourned for 15 minutes couldn’t start in time.

Before the national budget is presented, both the Houses of the federal parliament must endorse the government’s policies and programmes after deliberations.

The President is scheduled to present the policies and programmes in the joint sessions of both Houses on Tuesday.
