Rolpa: Five people were killed when the retaining wall of an under-construction suspension bridge collapsed in Gam, Ward No. 3, Sunchaahari Rural Municipality, Rolpa, on Sunday morning.

The bridge, intended to connect Maulabang and Bahiri Gam, collapsed at around 9:50 AM, according to District Police Chief DSP Bharat Lama. Seven workers were at the construction site when the wall gave way, but two managed to escape without injuries.

The victims have been identified as Dujman Pariyar (45), Om Pariyar (31), Subitra Pariyar (40), Aiti Pariyar (27), Deviram Pariyar (66).

All the deceased were residents of Bahiri Gam, Sunchaahari-3.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse.
