Kathmandu: Miklajung Rural Municipality of Morang, Nepal, and Minamitane City of Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, have officially established sister city ties. The announcement was made on Saturday during a program held in Tanegashima, Kagoshima.
The agreement was formalized in the presence of Minamitane Town Chief Hiroyashu Kozono and Miklajung Rural Municipality Chairman Babi Kumar Rai. The initiative was coordinated by Chiranjibi Thapa, a former businessman in Japan and a leader of the Nepali Congress.
The event saw participation from prominent figures, including Kagoshima Governor Koichi Shiyota, Speaker Sunlo Siogama, and Masashi Okada, Executive Director of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. Representing Nepal were lawmaker Dr Sunil Sharma, businessman Jeevan Khadka, and a representative from the Embassy of Nepal in Japan.
Minamitane, situated on the southern tip of Tanegashima, is bordered by the East China Sea and the Pacific Ocean, with the town of Nakatane to the north.
