Kathmandu: Nepal’s Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli,  on Friday held a virtual meeting with Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest individual, according to a post shared on the Prime Minister’s Facebook page.

In the brief post, Prime Minister Oli wrote, “I am now having a conversation with Elon Musk,” offering no further insight into the nature or agenda of the discussion.

The meeting comes at a time when Musk’s company, SpaceX, has been working to establish its Starlink satellite internet service in Nepal. Since last year, SpaceX has reportedly demonstrated its satellite network to Nepali officials in an effort to secure the government’s approval for the service. However, the demonstration has not yet been officially confirmed.

Despite submitting an application for a license to operate satellite internet in Nepal, SpaceX faces regulatory challenges, with local media reporting that the country’s existing laws pose significant obstacles to the launch of the service.
