Prime minister urged to consider national interests during his China visit

Kathmandu:  The National Unity Campaign (NUC) has urged Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli to put in priority the national interests of Nepal during his proposed visit to China starting from December 2.

Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli is supposed to visit China from December 2-6 and he is expected to initiate the process of opening more border points with the northern neighbor and discuss building more infrastructure along the northern border points.

Nepal and China are also expected to speed up the implementation of the BRI projects in Nepal during the visit.  In this context, Vinaya Yadav, the president of the Campaign, has drawn the attention of the government towards safeguarding national interests while initiating any bilateral deals with China during Oli’s visit. “Nepal should take its relations with China forward by keeping Nepal’s sovereignty and long-term national interests in priority,” said Yadav. “Nepal should move forward with the BRI projects by learning from the examples of Sri Lanka, Brazil and Italy.” He also called for endorsement from two thirds majority from the parliament in long-term projects such as BRI.
