Kathmandu: Three Nepali nationals were injured in a shooting incident near the Guatemala-Mexico border on October 2, 2024, according to the Embassy of Nepal in the United States.
The Nepali citizens were among 11 individuals traveling in a vehicle that came under fire from Mexican security forces, it said.
Contrary to initial media reports suggesting a possible death, the Embassy has confirmed that no Nepali nationals lost their lives in the incident. The three injured are currently receiving medical treatment, while all 11 individuals are now in the custody of Mexican immigration authorities.
The Embassy is in close communication with Mexican officials to gather more details and ensure the safety of the Nepali nationals. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available, the Embassy added.
Earlier, Reuters reported that six migrants died after Mexican soldiers fired on a group of 33 migrants traveling in a pick-up truck that had tried to evade a military patrol.
