Kathmandu: The US Department of Agriculture is going to donate $ 33 million to support school meals in Nepal. The announcement was made by the US embassy in Kathmandu on Saturday. “We are excited to announce a $33 million donation from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to support school meals in Nepal,” said the US embassy. In partnership with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and the UN World Food Programme (WFP), this five-year initiative will benefit over 120,000 children in rural districts, the embassy further said.

The aim of the donation is to improve student enrollment, attendance, literacy, and nutrition by enhancing the National Mid-day Meal Program. According to the embassy, WFP will provide daily hot meals to nearly 121,792 pre-primary and primary school children each year in 1,039 schools in Bajhang, Bajura and Darchula Districts of Sudur Paschim Province.
