Kathmandu:  The death toll from a bus accident in Nepal’s Marsyangdi River rose to 27.

The bus, with an Indian registration number, was traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu when it plunged into the river at Anbu Khaireni around 11:30 am.

Authorities confirmed that out of the 43 passengers onboard, all of whom were Indian nationals, 27 lost their lives, while 16 others sustained injuries.

The injured were evacuated to Kathmandu for medical treatment via a Nepal Army helicopter.

Fifteen victims are receiving care at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, with one person being treated at Sahid Memorial Hospital in Kalanki.

The bus, operated by Keservani Transport Travels, had entered Nepal from Gorakhpur, India, on August 20 through the Belahiya checkpoint. It was carrying a group of tourists from Bhairahawa to Pokhara before heading towards Kathmandu, where the accident took place.
