Birgunj (Parsa): Three children from the family of Naresh Ram in Jhawani Tole, Simraungadh Municipality-7, Bara, have died from food poisoning.
According to Bara Police, the deceased children—Lalima Ram, 7, Pushpa Ram, 7, and Ramnandan Ram, 5—experienced symptoms of food poisoning after consuming a meal on Sunday night. The meal included rice and curry made from fish harvested from a local pond.
Despite the entire family eating the same meal, only the children were affected. The children’s mother and grandparents did not exhibit any symptoms, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Prakash Sapkota of the District Police Office.
The preliminary investigation has not found any toxic substances in the home, and police are investigating whether the children may have consumed something else prior to their evening meal.
Inspector Nabin Rai of the Area Police Office said that the children were first taken to a local polyclinic after complaining of health complications, and then transferred to the Provincial Hospital in Kalaiya, Bara. One child died en route to the hospital. The other two were referred to the National Medical College in Birgunj, where they also passed away during treatment.
Their father, Naresh Ram, is in Punjab, India, for work.
