Dharche landslide: Search for missing continues

Gorkha: A search for those missing in a landslide that occurred at Dharche Rural Municipality-5, Singla of northern Gorkha district on Sunday has begun since this morning. 

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the District Police Office, Ramesh Kumar Shrestha shared that the search operation for the five missing persons in the landslide continues today as well. There was no progress in the search operation throughout Sunday. 

He said the Nepal Police, Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and locals have joined hands to search for the missing persons. “They are facing difficulty in finding out the status of those missing as many houses and agricultural farms were buried in the landslide,” he said. JCV machines have been used to search for the missing. 

Jeet Bahadur Gurung along with Kanchi Gurung, 35, Sulal Kancha Gurung, 60, Ramesh Gurung, 33, and Ramesh Pariyar, 24, went missing after a landslide occurred Sunday night had swept away the agricultural farm and a house of Jit Bahadur Gurung, a local. 

It is believed that the landslide reaching the Budhigandaki River might have washed them away. 

DSP Shrestha said that the police have started searching for the missing people in the vicinity of Budhigandaki River from today.
