211th Bhanu Jayanti celebrated in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania: The Triveni Literary Forum of Harrisburg successfully concluded the 211th Bhanu Jayanti celebration with a vibrant and diverse program on July 6 in Pennsylvania. The event, held under the theme ‘Prosperity with Identity in the Nepali Language; Prominent Literature, Art, and Culture’ brought together community members in traditional attire, showcasing their cultural identities.

The program was chaired by Keshav Bairagi Mailo, president of the Triveni Literary Forum, with social activist Tek Bahadur Gurung serving as the chief guest. Special guest Khem Rizal, the secretary of the Bhutan Literary Council also attended the event.

Literary creators and singers including Agom Gurung, Tungnath Upadhyay, Amrita Sharma, Sarita Sunuwar, Kunti Gurung, Antara Upadhyay, Gunjan Upadhyay, and Saugat Timilsina, performed musical pieces. Contributors such as Prem Khanal, Sanskrit scholar Dr. Narad Pokharel, Mahendra Adhikari (in English), B. B. Yonjan (in Tamang language), Suraj Budhathoki, Madhu Ghimire, Mira Adhikari, and Basudha Rizal enriched the program with their literary creations and tributes to Bhanu Bhakta in Nepali.

The program was further graced by melodious group recitations of Ramayana by Basudha Rizal and Indu Sri Chawan , and captivating poetry readings by young talents Rigam and Riya Rizal, who won the hearts of the audience.

On the occasion of the 211th Bhanu Jayanti, the Triveni Literary Forum honored social worker Tek Bahadur Gurung, singer and composer Tungnath Upadhyay, and Devi Dahal (Dagane) with certificates of appreciation for their unparalleled contributions to Nepali language, literature, and music.

Vice President Prem Ghimire welcomed all attendees and addressed the gathering, including all guests and artists. Treasurer Mahendra Adhikari performed a traditional invocation, and advisor Narad Acharya documented the entire event.

Local government officials Tom Connolly, Dr. Khem Adhikari, Dr. Ramesh Khadka, Ratan Gurung, Tej Misra, D.B. Rai, and K.B. Chawan, along with leaders from various communities, attended the event was hosted ,The forum’s secretary, Narad Achriya Sudama, and Advisor Bishnu Luitel presented the biography of Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya.

In his address, honored guest Tek Bahadur Gurung emphasized the power of literature to connect diverse communities. Expressing his joy after being honored by the literary forum, he acknowledged the added responsibility and stressed the importance of promoting language and literature through unity. 

Keshav Bairagi Mailo, president of the Triveni Literary Forum highlighted the forum’s role in fostering multi-ethnic, multilingual, and multicultural cohesion through literary activities and advocated for a collective literary journey. “The future of the literary journey lies in unity, not division.”

He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to hear literary works in various languages today and promised to bring even more impactful programs in the future. He concluded the event by thanking everyone.
