Tanker drivers, govt ink four-point agreement

A four-point agreement was reached between both the parties at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply today

Kathmandu: After the four-point agreement with the government, the agitated tanker drivers from the Nepal Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association have withdrawn the protest.

A four-point agreement was reached between both the parties at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply today. The Spokesperson of Nepal Oil Corporation Manoj Thakur informed that there will be an easy supply of fuel in the market from today.

The agreement was reached in the meeting held by Dinesh Kumar Ghimire, chairperson of the Board of Directors and secretary of Commerce of Oil Corporation, in Rohwar. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Executive Director of the corporation, Dr. Chandika Prasad Bhatt, and the President of the association, Ishwar Lama.

They have agreed to submit a report within 15 days to resolve problems arising in this sector, including the seven-point demand of the Nepal Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association, and the representatives of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply under the coordination of the Deputy Executive Director of the Corporation, and the representatives of the Nepal Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association, the Independent Transport Workers’ Association of Nepal, and All Nepal Petroleum Workers Union. It has been agreed to form a sub-committee to represent the association.

It has been agreed that the businesspersons will commit to providing the wages and facilities as agreed by the Nepal Oil Corporation to the tanker drivers/co-drivers and other workers involved in this sector.

At present, it has been agreed to withdraw all the programs of the movement and to facilitate the transportation of petroleum products keeping in mind the interests of the consumers. Both parties have also agreed on regular monitoring of compliance with existing legal provisions.

After the Nepal Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association went on strike for the transportation of essential petroleum products with various seven-point demands, there was a shortage of petroleum products in the valley since Sunday.
