Possibility of excessive heat as monsoon is not yet active: Met Department

Kathmandu: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned about the possibility of excessive heat, as it is unlikely the monsoon will become active in the central and western parts of Tarai until June 21.

In a special weather bulletin issued today, the Department has called for taking precautions to protect from possible hot wind and heat waves.

Meteorologist at the Meteorological Forecasting Division, Saroj Pudasaini, said there is a possibility of excessive heat in some places of the Tarai region including the Sudurpaschim and Lumbini provinces since the monsoon is not fully active.

“The monsoon has already become active in the eastern region of the country. A heat wave-like situation will prevail in the western region until June 21, as the monsoon wind blowing towards the west from the east is not active,” he said.
