Agreement on marketing of organic produces

Arghakhanchi: The organic goods produced by farmers in the Arghakhanchi district will fetch good prices and get a market. All thanks to the agreement for facilitation between the local government in the district and the Janata Agro and Forestry Limited Kathmandu.

Sandhikharka Municipality and Panini Rural Municipality signed an agreement with Kathmandu-based Janata Agro and Forestry Limited. As per the agreement, the company will market the organic products of the two local levels at support price.

Rajendra Bhattarai, chief of Department of Agriculture in Sandhikharka Municipality, shared that the company will purchase the local organic produce at a reasonable price.

Groups of farmers have been formed at various local levels to promote the cultivation of organic vegetables and fruits and to move ahead in the direction of earning a livelihood and boosting local production, said Krishna Prasad Shrestha, mayor of Sandhikharka Municipality.

Mayor Shrestha, Panini Rural Municipality’s Vice-Chairperson Narmada Poudel, and Paban Kumar Golyan, chairperson of the Company, signed the agreement which is expected to encourage local farmers to produce organic items, thereby contributing to the sustainable livelihood for farmers. 

The company has also expressed interest in buying turmeric, ginger, Sichuan pepper, coffee, chhurpi (hardened cheese), walnut, and cow ghee among other food items, said Bhoj Bahadur Shah, vice-president of the Company. 

The company also aims to use local raw materials, and promote local products as well as native crops, added Shah.
