Freedom Forum becomes member of Global Forum for Media Development

Kathmandu: Freedom Forum has become a member of the Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD), the largest global community for media development, media freedom, and journalists’ support.

In May, GFMD welcomed Freedom Forum along with ten other organizations into the community, bringing the total membership to 199 organizations.

According to GFMD, the inclusion of new organizations with diverse visions and skills is expected to have a synergistic effect, contributing positively to the worldwide media landscape.

FF’s Executive Chief, Taranath Dahal, attended the GFMD General Assembly held online on April 24. During the assembly, GFMD members discussed possible strategies for supporting journalists.

The GFMD community works with a mission to strengthen and support media ecosystems, empowering journalists, media professionals, and civil society organizations to drive innovation and promote pluralism.

Executive Chief Dahal stated that becoming a member of GFMD provides an opportunity for Freedom Forum to build further collaboration to advance democratic values irrespective of borders.

“It will help us build partnerships to achieve the goal of protecting and promoting democracy through respect for freedom of expression, press freedom, civic space, and digital rights,” he emphasized.

The GFMD is a Belgium-based international network of journalism support and media development organizations. It works to support journalism and media through collaboration, knowledge exchange, and advocacy.
