Kathmandu: India has said that participation of leaders from neighborhood and Indian Ocean in the
swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers signifies bonds of friendship between India and the participating countries.
The swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers took place in Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday. President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, President of Maldives, Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Vice-President of Seychelles, Ahmed Afif, Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth accompanied by his spouse, Nepal’s PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay attended the ceremony. Leaders of Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan were accompanied by Ministers.
Indian Prime Minister reaffirmed India’s commitment to its ‘Neighborhood First’ policy and ‘SAGAR Vision’ and said that in his third term, India will continue to work for the peace, progress and prosperity of the region in close partnership with the countries. He also called for deeper people-to-people ties and connectivity in the region adding that India would continue to amplify the voice of the Global South in the international arena, according to the statement issued by Ministry of External Affairs.
The Indian PM met with his Nepali counterpart after the swearing-in ceremony.
