United States: Activists from Harrisburg and nearby states gathered at Pennsylvania’s State Capitol Complex to demand the immediate release of Bhutanese political prisoners.
Organized by the Global Campaign for the Release of Political Prisoners in Bhutan (GCRPPB), the event drew attention to the plight of those unjustly detained for their political beliefs.
Prominent Bhutanese leaders, human rights activists Bishwanath Chhetri, Om Prakash Adhikari, Madhav Phuyal, Divya Chauhan, Dr. Narad Pokhrel, Ayushma Neopaney, Narad Adhikari, T.B. Gurung, Bishal Upreti, Ashika Dhaurali, Tilak Niroula, and local politicians Tom Connolly and Benjamin Martin joined forces to amplify their voices. Former political prisoners shared harrowing accounts of their experiences, demanding the urgent need for justice and accountability in Bhutan.
The GCRPPB, which has been advocating for prisoner release since its inception in 2019, reiterated its commitment to the cause.
Ram Karki, the Global Coordinator of GCRPPB, emphasized the organization’s determination to pursue justice until every Bhutanese political prisoner is freed.
Harrisburg-based coordinator, the GCRPPB Senior CM Nirolula, said, “With over 30 influential figures from the Bhutanese community in America participating in the protest, the event underscored the global support for this critical issue. Calls for international intervention echoed throughout the rally, urging governments and human rights organizations to pressure Bhutan to respect the rights of its citizens.”
As the fight for justice continues, the GCRPPB vows to escalate its advocacy efforts on the global stage, promising further rallies in key cities worldwide. The message is clear: the world is watching, and the time for action is now, global coordinator Ram Karki stated in a signed statement.
