President Paudel Urges Unified Effort for Environmental Protection on World Environment Day

Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel emphasized the importance of sustainable development as a driving force towards the common goal of environmental protection in his message for World Environment Day 2024.

Highlighting Nepal’s achievements in forest and environmental conservation through national policies on forests, environment, and climate change, President Paudel called for further efforts to address ongoing environmental challenges. He pointed out that the unorganized and unscientific use of plastic polymers exemplifies a major environmental issue, stressing that development and environmental protection should complement rather than compete with each other.

President Paudel expressed his hope that World Environment Day would invigorate Nepal’s commitment to reducing air, water, and land pollution, as pledged in various international forums. He encouraged all Nepalis to work together in promoting environmental improvement activities.

He also called on everyone to pledge to enhance the environment around their homes and to foster a life-oriented ecological relationship among forests, water, plants, agriculture, and animals, thereby realizing the constitutional right to live in a clean environment.

World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5 at the call of the United Nations.
