Kathmandu: Nepali mountaineer Poornima Shrestha broke her own record Saturday morning by scaling Mt Everest for the third time within the same climbing season. The young mountaineer scaled the world’s tallest peak for the third time Saturday morning at 5:50 AM.

Shrestha scaled the summit first on May 12, 2024, accompanied by Phura Temba Sherpa, second time on May 19, 2024, accompanied by Pasang Sherpa, and today, on May 25, 2024, at 5:50 AM, accompanied by Karma Gyaljen Sherpa.

Poornima has an impressive record of scaling the mountains above 8000 meters over the years. She climbed Manaslu two times, Mount Everest (8848.86m) four times, Annapurna I (8091m), Dhaulagiri (8167m), Kanchenjunga (8586m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8481m), and K2 (8611m) one time each.

“You can’t imagine how happy I am for her,” said Shristi Kafle, Nepali journalist and a close friend of Poornima. “Three Everest summits in just two weeks, this is incredible. I am really proud of her and I pray for her safe descend.”
