No confidence motion in parliament until government forms house panel, Nepali Congress warns

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is seeking a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives, the lower house of parliament, on Monday.

Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress has warned it will disrupt the confidence motion of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachada’ if a high-level parliamentary committee is not formed by 11 am tomorrow to investigate the allegations against Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

The main opposition has been obstructing both houses–the House of Representatives and the National Assembly–demanding Lamichhane be investigated through a high-level parliamentary probe committee.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is seeking a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives, the lower house of parliament, on Monday.

Organizing a press meet, Gagan Kumar Thapa, General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, said, we [Congress] will not let the House run if the government doesn’t form a probe panel by 11 AM tomorrow.

Thapa also said that the government had set a narrative that Nepali Congress did not let Home Minister Lamichhane to furnish clarification in the parliament. “That chapter is over now as Congress let him speak as he demanded,” he said, adding that the essence of his [Lamichhane] speech is that there will be no investigation committee regarding him.

“The investigation committee can look into everything, but not Gorkha Media? No sir, the investigation committee will first scrutinize the files of Gorkha Media and Suryadarshan Cooperative,” Thapa told the press.

Home Minister Lamichhane has been accused of embezzling a huge amount of funds from cooperatives based in Pokhara, Butwal and Chitwan.
