Kathmandu:  Chiranjeevi Nepal, the economic advisor to President Ram Chandra Poudel has resigned following controversy over his remarks  about the government’s decision to print new 100 rupee banknotes by depicting the new map in it .

The government last week had taken the decision to issue new 100 rupee banknotes by depicting the new map in it.

Soon after Chiranjeevi Nepal had commented that the government’s decision comes at “the most inappropriate time and without thinking of its larger implications.” Likewise, he had also said the government’s decision to use the map from the amended Constitution as an “irresponsible diversion.”

There had been quite a debate about Nepal’s remarks.  While a group of civil society members in Kathmandu had demanded his resignation from the post of president’s advisor for his “irresponsible public comments” about Nepal’s sovereignty, the chair of CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli had demanded an explanation  from the office of the president about the matter.
