Netherlands in Nepal: Dutch community in Kathmandu celebrates King’s Day

The Consulate of the Netherlands in Nepal organized an event in Kathmandu on 27 April to commemorate the Koningsdag, also the King’s Day.

Kathmandu: On 27 April, a group of people mostly wearing orange attire gathered in Kathmandu. They cheered. They exchanged greetings. They shared a celebration.

The purpose of the gathering was to commemorate Koningsdag or the King’s Day, the celebration on the occasion of Dutch King Willem-Alexander’s 57th birthday.

The occasion was also marked as an opportunity to recall cordial ties between Nepal and the Netherlands. Participants highlighted the areas of bilateral cooperation and people-to-people relations between two countries.

King’s Day dates back to 1885 in the Netherlands. Today, King’s Day is not only a celebration of the monarchy but also a testament to the Dutch spirit of togetherness and community, as people from all walks of life and ages come together to celebrate.
