Controversial cricketer Lamichhane added in Nepal’s World Cup squad

United States: Controversial Nepali cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane has arrived in Saint Vincent to join the Nepali national cricket team for the remaining matches of the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup.

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced in a press release that Lamichhane will be playing against South Africa and Bangladesh in the tournament.

Lamichhane, the former captain, had his suspension lifted following a May 15 decision by the Patan High Court in a rape case, allowing him to rejoin the national squad from May 16. Despite this, he was initially unable to participate in the tournament due to the US Embassy denying his visa applications twice.

According to the National Security Ministry of Saint Vincent, arrangements have been made for Nepal not to require a visa for the entire duration of the T20 World Cup. However, CAN has not disclosed from where Lamichhane traveled to the West Indies.

After losing the first match against the Netherlands, Nepal will play against Sri Lanka next Wednesday morning. They will then play against South Africa on June 14 and against Bangladesh on June 16 at the Saint Vincent Stadium.

Previously, Sandeep was acquitted in a rape case, and CAN decided to include him in the squad after he was cleared of charges.
