Dry landslide in Kaligandaki Corridor

Baglung: Dry landslide has obstructed the Baglung-Gulmi road section of the Kaligandaki Corridor since Sunday night. A landslide occurred last night in Baralwa, Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-6 of Gulmi, which is the border of Baglung and Gulmi.

Maldhunga-Arbeni road under Baglung-Gurlmi section was completely blocked after the landslide. Earlier, a landslide occurred in the same place on Falgun 11 and Falgun 26. The corridor was shut for one week back then. Upgrading is ongoing to blacktop the at the 44-km stretch from Maldhunga in Baglung to Arbeni in Gulmi. 

Chha Bahadur Gurung, an engineer from the construction company, said that the road was blocked and the work was stopped after a sudden landslide on Sunday night while the work was going on.

“The place where the landslide occurred is very weak. There are frequent landslides and it is obstructing the work”, said Arun Khatri, the project engineer. The project and construction companies have started work since this morning to clear the landslide.

The police said that vehicular movement is obstructed because of the landslip. 

Due to road blockage, vehicles plying from district headquarters Baglung Bazar, Dakshin Jaimini and Bareng Rural Municipality to Butwal and other places have been stopped. Frequent landslides occur in the area as the area is steep.
